Vote This Time is a partisan blog. It would be intellectually dishonest (and a bit silly) to claim otherwise. At the same time, the other stated goal of the site–to urge people to vote–is authentic, even if it turns out that some people vote for Republicans. After all, this is America, and people are free to vote for whomever they please. If one of our objections to the current administration is that it is trying to limit the vote, it would be disingenuous to only urge our side to go to the polls (or the mailbox).
There is a pragmatic reason as well. The shape of things in general and the current polling gives me confidence that two out of every three people (more or less) who will decide to come off the sidelines are more likely vote in line with the tenor of this site. Frightened people vote. Angry people vote. People whose hero turns out to be bad news don’t vote.
Below are 20 reasons (plus a bonus) to vote. In all but one case I’ve linked to articles from outside sources detailing where we are now. The one exception is an internal link to a piece I wrote. Considering them all together is a bit frightening. This goes far beyond political differences. It comes to competence. It’s clear that the administration is winging it. That’s bad news because governing is a very serious business and should be run by serious people, regardless of their political views.
