Assessing the Democratic and Republican Parties

Republican and Democrat campaigners carrying flags with donkey and elephant symbols.

The purpose of Vote This Time is to encourage sporadic or nonvoters to get off the sidelines and go to the polls (or to the mailbox).

One way of doing that is to offer a comparison between the parties directly or, if more relevant, the first Trump term, the Biden administration and what we know so far about Trump II.

We loved the first AI (Allen Iverson) but not the second (artificial intelligence). The idea of something coming as close as possible to thinking for us and producing well written and informative essays is scary and intimidating. The speed at which it does this really is sci-fi stuff.

On the other hand, every technology advance discomforts a group of usually older folks who are accustomed to the old way of doing things. Those who don’t adjust lose out.

The goal of this website is to convince people to vote. A key step in doing that is convincing them that there indeed is a significant difference between the two major political parties. The best way to do that simply is to compare and contrast the current one and its two predecessors.

I use plural pronouns when referring to this site. It’s actually at this point a one-person shop. I use “we” and “us” for two reasons: I want this undertaking to seem bigger than one person and I am not into self-reference except when it’s unavoidable.

I don’t have the time or energy to write a fact-based 500 word essay every week comparing and contrasting what Trump, Biden and Trump did on a variety of issues. Luckily, AI offers a shortcut (to put in mildly) on this. Vote This Time will use AI – specifically ChatGPT (from OpenAI), Gemini AI (from Google), Perplexity (independent),  Claude AI (from Anthropic) and Copilot (from Microsoft). Others could be added.

Even at about 500 words, the essays go into a bit more detail than is necessary to illustrate the two things that we (excuse me, I) want to illustrate: That the approaches between Biden and Trump (and even Trump I compared to Trump II) are significant and to provide a high level view of what those differences are.

This, we hope, will be enough to get more people to vote.
